RoLeaks started in mid-June 2023, with the purpose of leaking the most hidden corners of Roblox and its community, showing information and scandals that most believed had been buried for a long time. Once these revelations came to light, the team was to cover them up with an elaborate web of discourse that would stimulate debate and critical discussions about the implications of said leaked information.
RoLeaks was actually inspired by the same organization called WikiLeaks, started by Julian Assange in 2006. For quite some time, WikiLeaks has been valued for its work of making things transparent and showing secret deals; therefore, some people who had a similar goal of showing secrets in the wonderful yet mysterious world of Roblox simply couldn't pass up such a big example.
In fact, RoLeaks took as its motto the words of Siddhartha Gautama, also known as The Buddha: “Three things cannot remain hidden for long: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” That captures the spirit of the movement quite well: bringing to light what has been hidden, and explains it further by saying that no matter how deeply information is buried, the truth tends to come to light.
RoLeaks did not start as a structured group per se, but was more organic and emerged as an icon to gather documents about the RoMX case, a very controversial situation in the Roblox Ro-Nation community that, until then, had been shrouded in much secrecy. This icon, first conceptualized by Mr. Rango in June 2023, would soon gain traction as a symbol of resistance against opacity on the gaming platform. a more structured movement and, in January 2024, a Rango collaborator, Mr. Self Destruct began to formalize RoLeaks. The organization's initial posts were updates to the community about critical documents regarding the RoMX case and pointed out things that had gone unexamined up until that point.
While he was the one who invented RoLeaks, Mr. Self Destruct has been instrumental in developing it into what it is today. The current director of the movement, who leads the organized movement, works a lot with Rango to develop ways to preserve the essence of the movement while also fluidly changing it with the ever-changing nature of Roblox. Mr. Rango is also the head of the 81st Special Investigation Operational Task Force, a clandestine intelligence division of Rogue-Network Incorporated, aka "Halcyon."
Today, RoLeaks has a significant number of editors and contributors. These are people who work on writing and publishing documents. Additionally, RoLeaks has attracted support from collaborative groups and allies in various forms around the Roblox community, joining like-minded people in an effort to be transparent and accountable.
With each leak published online and subsequently analyzed, RoLeaks forces the community to face a moment of uncomfortable truth, ensuring a collective awakening to the complexity of the virtual world.
